A special issue of the “Asia-Pacific News Brief” on the occasion of the XIV joint Japanese-Russian and Russian-Japanese Committee meeting on Economic Cooperation on 28 November 2017 is released.
The publication opens with an article by Dr. Alexander Shokhin, President of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP) (in Russian, in English), highlighting recent positive trends in the Russian economy: implementation of special investment contracts, as one of the instruments intended to stimulate investment and import substitution, enhanced competitiveness of domestic production and business climate improvement.
An overview of the Japanese business climate presents an economic outlook, perspective sectors for Russian companies, administrative and legal aspects of doing business in Japan as well as Japanese business etiquette (in Russian, in English).
Mr. Hiroshi Tajima, Minister (Economic Affairs) of the Embassy of Japan in Russia reflects on the recent developments in Japanese Stock Market operations (in Russian, in English). He points out that in the past ten years, the foreigners’ share in the sales volume of the TSE remained at over 60%, and in 2016 the overseas institutional investors accounted for 57% of the total trading value (the total being 1,382 trillion yen, or roughly 850 trillion rubles). In addition, the share of Japanese corporate stocks held by foreign corporations amounts to 30% (FY2016), showing that the TSE is a transparent platform trusted by investors from different parts of the world.
Russian Trade Representative to Japan Mr. Sergey Egorov in his article (in Russian, in English) analyses new areas of Russian-Japanese economic cooperation. According to him, Russian-Japanese cooperation in IT and innovations intensifies.
Mr. Maruoka Toshiaki, General Director of Mitsui & Co. Moscow LLC in his article (in Russian, in English) presents the company`s work at the Russian market and cooperation with the RSPP. Mitsui’s history in Russia is a story of successful investments. For 50 years the company pursued its philosophy of win-win relationships that contributed to strengthening ties between Russia and Japan and helped bring prosperity for our peoples. The special issue also includes the presentation of Mitsui`s innovative technology – PIPETECTOR - anti-corrosion equipment for water distribution pipe, hot water pipe, central heating pipe, regional heating pipe and oil pipeline (in Russian, in English).
The article by “Sakhalin Oil & Gas Development Co., ltd” (SODECO) company (in Russian, in English) presents the company`s experience in gas development underpinned by several variations of business models, including LNG production, aiming to monetization of reinjection gas.
The readers can learn about Russian company “Basic Element”`s work aimed at promoting Russian culture and increasing the Japanese citizens’ awareness of it, through support of actions such the performance of the Kuban Cossack Choir (in Russian, in English).
