Morocco seeks to strengthen relations with ASEAN

Morocco is keen to pursue closer ties with ASEAN, said the new Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to ASEAN Ouadia Benabdellah. He conveyed this message during the presentation of his Letter of Credence to Secretary-General of ASEAN Le Luong Minh at the ASEAN Secretariat on June 14, 2017.
Secretary-General Minh highlighted the importance of Morocco’s accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia which served as an important gesture to further promote friendly and cooperative relations between ASEAN and Morocco. Secretary-General Minh also appreciated Morocco’s interest in establishing formal partnership with ASEAN.


Ambassador Benabdellah updated Secretary-General Minh on Morocco’s recent foreign policy reorientation in which the country actively sought to enhance relationship with and re-join multilateral and regional organisations, including the recent readmission of Morocco to the African Union and the principle approval given to Morocco’s membership to the Economic Community of West African States.
Secretary-General Minh and Ambassador Benabdellah exchanged views on ways and means to further enhance and substantiate the relations between ASEAN and Morocco to tap the potentials in the areas of mutual interests and benefits.
