“There is great potential to deepen economic relations among the EAEU countries and the United States of America”

“The Eurasian Economic Commission is working to improve business environment in the Eurasian Economic Union,” said the EEC Board Chairman Tigran Sargsyan at the fourth Conference “Eurasian Economic integration: moving forward, new horizons for business”, organized by the Eurasian Economic Commission together with the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia (ACC) and the American-Russian Business Council (ARBC) on December 2, 2016.

In his speech, the Chairman of the EEC Board noted that the activities of the EAEU are based on the principles of transparency and use of best practices. Speaking about trade and economic relations between the countries of the Union and the USA, he stressed that there is great potential for recovery and development.
“Unfortunately, we have to note that in recent years there was negative dynamics in trade of goods and services. The main decline was observed in 2015, mainly due to reduction of imports from the USA by 36% compared to 2014. Exports of products of the Member States to the USA declined less significantly - by 10.5%. In 2016, the situation stabilized. The EAEU countries remain attractive for US exporters of telecommunications, transport, insurance, intellectual and some other services,” said Tigran Sargsyan.
The American Chamber of Commerce in Russia highly appreciates the activities of the Eurasian Economic Commission and closely cooperates with it. “We are confident that the integration processes taking place in the EAEU space contribute to the formation of a more favorable investment climate and create new opportunities for business development in the EAEU countries and the USA,” said the President of the ACC Alexis Rodzianko.
Tigran Sargsyan spoke about important EAEU decisions for the business community. It includes, for example, the Customs Code of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU CC), the draft of which was approved by the heads of governments of the EAEU countries at the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council on November 16 this year.
