EEC and UNESCAP discuss further areas of cooperation

The EEC Board Member - Minister in charge of Economics and Financial Policy Timur Suleimenov and Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), the Executive Secretary of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) Shamshad Akhtar discussed prospects for further cooperation between the EEC and the UNESCAP during the meeting in Moscow on December 12, 2016.


They discussed a wide range of topics, including trade and investments, banking and finance, transport and logistics, industry and agriculture, statistics, information technologies, energy policy, functioning of the domestic market, labor migration, and intellectual property. All of these are reflected in the draft Program of cooperation between the EEC and the UNESCAP for 2017-2019 developed by the Commission in accordance with the Memorandum of understanding between the EEC and the UNESCAP.
Interaction between the UNESCAP and the EEC is developing following the signing of the Memorandum of understanding between the EEC and the UNESCAP in November 2013 in Almaty. The aim of the Memorandum is to strengthen cooperation in such areas as macroeconomic policy, trade, investments and business support, transport, energy, statistics, etc.
