The heads of government of the EAEU countries approved the Common Customs Code
On November 16, 2016 the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council held a session in Gorki (Moscow region, Russia), attended by the heads of Government of the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU): the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and the Russian Federation, where the EAEU Common Customs Code was approved.
The Eurasian Intergovernmental Council session was chaired by the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Bakytzhan Sagintayev. He thanked the representatives of the countries participating in the work on the EAEU customs code. He stressed that the experts and Eurasian Economic Commission had completed a great deal of work. "The draft Agreement on the Customs Code of the Eurasian Union has been agreed at the level of Prime Ministers," said Bakytzhan Sagintayev. ”At the forthcoming meeting of Heads of State in December we will be able to present the Customs Code for signing. We hope that, the relevant decision will be taken by the heads of State in December. And that next year our Eurasian Union starts off with the new Customs Code.”
Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Tigran Sargsyan stressed that the EAEU Customs Code contains important norms relating to the work of customs services. "Conditions have been created to automate many of the processes," said Tigran Sargsyan. ”Dealings between business and the customs administrators has been reduced to a minimum. And all of this is aimed at improving the business climate. Therefore the document is anxiously awaited by our business.”
The EAEU Customs Code will be one of the key documents in the regulatory legal framework of the Union, which will increase the level of unification and agreement between the five Eurasian Union countries in sphere of customs regulation. The draft EAEU CC is based on the transition to electronic technology, and the improvement of foreign economic activities, in particular promoting exports.
