On October 24, 2016 at the initiative of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) the Eurasian Economic Commission held a presentation of the next issue of the economic review of the IMF for countries of Central Asia and the Caucasus "Regional Economic Outlook”.
The analytical review, presented by the Deputy Director of the IMF for Middle East and Central Asia Juha Kähkönen, was devoted to the research of the trends of development of the regional economy taking into account the impact of external shocks, exchange rate dynamics of national currencies, as well as reduced growth rates not only in the world economy, but also of the major trading partners (China, Russia, EU).
In the framework of the presentation the need to accelerate structural reforms and change the model of the economic growth was highlighted, as well as the macro-prudential policy and budget consolidation in the countries of Central Asia and the Caucasus region. According to the IMF experts, these measures would provide a basis for medium-term economic growth, raise living standards of the people, and create new jobs.
The participants discussed the economic policies proposed by the IMF from the perspective of developing and deepening the integration cooperation within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union, its pairing with the Silk Road Economic Belt, taking into account the prospects for the world and regional economy as a whole.
