The EEC and Kyrgyz customs discussed the terms of accession of Kyrgyzstan to the Eurasian Economic Union

On September 19-21, 2016 in Bishkek experts of the Eurasian Economic Commission under the supervision of the Director of the Department of customs infrastructure Vladimir Skiba discussed with the State Customs Service of the Kyrgyz Republic performance of the procedures required within the framework of the country's accession to the Eurasian Economic Union.
According to Vladimir Skiba, the consultation covered issues of customs legislation, including those with regard to the forthcoming adoption of the Customs Code of the EAEU, as well as improvement of the customs infrastructure and information technologies.


The Kyrgyz customs officers provided information about rearrangement activities of the customs border of Kyrgyzstan, implementation of the recommendations of the Commission on improving customs legislation.
"Modernization of the customs system in the framework of the accession of Kyrgyzstan to the Union is under way, but there is still a lot of work to be done to modernize the customs infrastructure of Kyrgyzstan in accordance with the terms of the Treaty on the accession,” said the Chairman of the State Customs Service of the Kyrgyz Republic Azamat Sulaimanov.
Following the consultations, it was agreed to submit proposals to the Government of Kyrgyzstan on a number of important issues. As explained by Vladimir Skiba, proposals are related to customs control in separate air check points, completion of the negotiating process with Uzbekistan and Tajikistan on the status of certain road check points, as well as bringing certain articles of the law of Kyrgyzstan "On customs regulation in the Kyrgyz Republic” into compliance with the terms of the Treaty on the accession of Kyrgyzstan to the Union.

The Kyrgyz Republic became a Member State of the Eurasian Economic Union on August 12, 2015. The Treaty on the Accession of the Republic to the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union dated May 29, 2014 entered into force on the same day. The full scope of activities to implement the terms of accession of the Kyrgyz Republic to the Union in the customs sphere must be completed before August 12, 2017. The third (last) phase is running now.
