Director of the Agroindustrial Policy Stanislav Buben met the Minister of Agriculture of the Argentine Republic Ricardo Buryaile

On October 19, 2016 the Eurasian Economic Commission held a meeting where the Director of the Agroindustrial Policy Department of the EEC, Stanislav Buben, discussed the status and prospects for cooperation between the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union and Argentina in the Agroindustrial sector with the Minister of Agriculture of the Argentine Republic, Ricardo Buryaile.


The meeting was attended by heads of the integration development, trade policy, business development, technical regulation, sanitary, phytosanitary and veterinary measures departments of the Commission, the Ambassador of the Argentine Republic to the Russian Federation Pablo Anselmo Tettamanti, President of SENASA Jorge Dhillon, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock and Fisheries of Córdoba Province Sergio Busso, Minister of Agricultural Industries of the Buenos Aires Province, Leonardo Sarquis, Director of the International Economic Promotion Department of the Foreign Ministry of Argentina Leonardo Fernandez Suarez, Vice President of the Argentina Investment & Trade Promotion Agency Juan Pablo Tripodi as well as representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Foreign Affairs of the Argentine Republic and the Embassy of Argentina to Russia.
Director of the AIC Department of the EEC Stanislav Buben informed the Argentine side of the agreed agroindustrial policy conducted in the Eurasian Economic Union, the status and forecasts of the development of the agroindustrial complex, supply and demand by main type of agricultural products and food in the medium-and long-term. He highlighted that, despite the fact that in 2015, the external trade turnover of the EAEU Member States with Argentina had decreased by 26%, when compared with 2014, there were positive trends in the development of trade relations between the Argentine Republic and Member States of the Union in the first half of the year 2016 when compared with the same period last year.
The Minister of Agriculture of Argentina Ricardo Buryaile informed the EEC of the desire to intensify the process of integration with other countries, integration associations and organisations, including the Eurasian Economic Commission. He said that Argentina has a huge export potential in terms of the production of agricultural products and food.
"The Eurasian Economic Commission is interested in Argentina’s experience in preserving the balance between external trade and its positions on the international market and in terms of economic integration within the framework of the MERCOSUR economic union”, Stanislav Buben said.
During the discussion of the opportunities and prospects for interaction, the Argentine side expressed interest in establishing joint ventures in the agroindustrial complex that have potential for integration, as well as in developing investment cooperation under the coordination of the Commission and the EAEU Member States.
"The interaction between the Commission and Argentina in the field of the agroindustrial complex will have a positive impact on the further development of the integration processes of the Eurasian Economic Union and allow the Union States to take into account the best European practices in the implementation of the agreed agricultural policy," Stanislav Buben said.
During the meeting, the parties agreed to work on the preparation of an international act on cooperation in agriculture.
