The Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Andrey Kobyakov met the Chairman of the Board of the EEC Tigran Sargsyan in the run-up to the Intergovernmental Council Session
On October 20, 2016 in the run-up to the session of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, a meeting was held between the Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Andrey Kobyakov and Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Tigran Sargsyan in Minsk.
Andrey Kobyakov highlighted Belarus's commitment to the position that dictates that the Eurasian Economic Union must build relations without exemptions and restrictions that impede mutual trade between the countries.
Belarus supports the activities of the Eurasian Economic Commission, which is actively working on concluding free trade agreements with third countries this year. "This is a priority for the Kazakhstan’s Presidency of the EAEU. Nevertheless, we want to draw attention once again to the fact that good and insightful relationships with third countries will be truly established when we build relations within the Union without any exclusions or exemptions that impede mutual trade among the Member States of the Union," Andrey Kobyakov said. “These priorities that existed during the Presidency of Belarus in 2015 in the first year of the functioning of the Eurasian Economic Union, remain the same for us and we must clearly move ahead in this direction".
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus pointed out the active interaction between Belarus and the Eurasian Economic Commission. "This is not your first visit to Minsk, we believe that the more we meet, the better. We made a good start with the meetings of Heads of Governments, the fourth session will be held in Minsk. The number of issues that we constantly have to deal with has not reduced. This suggests that this format is required, that there are many issues that are brought to the level of Heads of Government and, unfortunately, to the expert level, that have not yet found solutions. We believe that they need to be solved as soon as possible,” Andrey Kobyakov said.
In his turn, the Chairman of the Board of the EEC Tigran Sargsyan thanked the Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus for the promptness with which Belarus has been working with the Commission. "The request for a meeting was due to the current issues that, in our view, may stimulate integration, help national governments to stimulate economic growth, which is the priority today," he said.
Andrey Kobyakov highlighted that the agenda of the session of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council will include serious issues, which include the work on the EAEU Customs Code, and the introduction of a mechanism for the traceability of goods.
